Social Event: Julia’s Sweet Sixteen
Great Gatsby blended with Funk Punk Rock was the premise for a sweet sixteen celebration produced for our dear client’s daughter. Incorporating multiple locations in the client’s backyard, spaces were transformed into a swanky poolside cocktail reception that evolved into a surprise rock concert featuring the birthday girl’s idol – Adam Lambert.

THE MENU
The menu design tailored to both kids and adults alike. Our catering team’s goal was to defy the thought process that comfort foods could not be creative. A made to order tapas bar presented a unique twist on a classic grilled cheese and tomato soup meal. While fun flavors of tangerine and lavender cotton candy and miniature peanut butter and jelly doughnut were offered as passed menu items. A variety of short plates were carefully constructed by a JDK chef for guests to enjoy while they could help themselves to a pail of fresh french fries suspended from a chain wall. Signature end-of-night desserts were the gelato folding station, suspended pie fries and candy bar, and smoking nitro popcorn.
THE DESIGN
Themes of gold, black, feathers and glitter consumed the opening to the cocktail hour as guests arrived in Gatsby garb. The main clear-topped reception tent embraced bold colors and edgy elements of punk rock. Bold pops of jewel tones in magenta and cobalt blue were paired with silver accents. Theatrics and entertainment played a major role in the design and flow of the event. From a water orb artist dancing inside a transparent orb in the client’s pool to old world and futuristic-inspired actors on stilts, every act heightened guests excitement leading to the main surprise of Adam Lambert’s secret performance.
